Dear Prospective Marian Family or Supporter,

The United States Council of Catholic Bishops has committed themselves and the whole Catholic community to providing a Gospel-based education of the highest quality that is available, accessible, and affordable. Twenty years ago, seven communities of women religious took this commitment to heart and founded Marian Middle School, an all-girls, Catholic school educating students from all religious, racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. Looking specifically for students with high academic ability without the economic means to access the education to reach their full potential, Marian partners with families in order to transform lives. We are a close-knit community with a commitment to students and families that extends far beyond middle school. Our mission to “Educate Girls for Life” continues with our graduate support program which offers programmatic and economic support for students through high school and post-secondary education into career success. With small class sizes, phenomenal staff, and foundational curriculum enhanced by enrichment opportunities, the education our students receive is individualized, holistic, and grounded in the radical love of Jesus. I am finishing my tenth year at Marian—five years as the fifth-grade teacher and five as principal. I have never worked in a place with a deeper sense of mission or a more dedicated staff. Our students inspire me daily with their resilience, drive, and call for justice. We would love to introduce you to our community. All are welcome.

Principal

Mission

Mission Marian Middle School, a Catholic school welcoming adolescent girls of all backgrounds, is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through education. Marian fosters each student’s spiritual, academic, social, moral, emotional, and physical development from middle school through post-secondary education as a foundation for career success.

Marian Middle School is a leader in providing life-altering education. Marian Middle School graduates are accomplished young women equipped to make informed decisions and create enduring, positive change.

Guiding Values:

  • Faith-Filled Life
  • Quality Education
  • Family and Community Spirit
  • Respect for the Uniqueness of the Individual
  • Service to Foster Justice, Peace, and Equality

Purpose

A faith-filled life is Marian’s number one guiding value. Our staff models this through their care and concern for every student and in the lives of prayer and justice they lead. Students pray together throughout the day. They participate in weekly chapel services which alternate between mass and other prayer opportunities. Service learning for students and families and instruction on Catholic Social Teaching is integrated into the curriculum.

Quality

Marian’s Academic Program prepares students to succeed at high-performing high schools and beyond. Each Marian student receives individualized attention throughout her middle school years. The curriculum offers a strong foundation coupled with real-world application in STEM, the humanities, and the arts. Our extended school day includes enrichment classes such as sports, theater, Model United Nations, culture club, etc. focused on learning, character growth, leadership and holistic development.

Dynamic Community

Four days weekly, Marian offers students additional opportunities for learning, empowerment, character growth, and leadership development. Marian is small by design. With each grade capped at 20 students, girls develop bonds of sisterhood that lasts a lifetime. Academic Saturdays enable students and families to learn together in the community. As a school with a long-view, Marian assists students in finding right-fit high schools, internship opportunities, college scholarships, and networks for job placement. “Once a Marian Girl, Always a Marian Girl!”

Statistics

85% of our students qualify for the free and reduced-priced meals program, a national indicator of poverty, and yet, they are graduating Marian Middle School and performing in high school and beyond at rates that vastly exceed their peers. For example, 97% graduate from high school, compared to only 78% of students who attend local public schools. 87% attend college, compared to only 51% of students of similar background and circumstance living in the U.S.
More than 250 girls have graduated from Marian Middle School, which is now celebrating its 20th anniversary Educating Girls for Life. At any given time, we support 200 families from 30 different zip codes, which includes 75 students in middle school, 73 alumnae currently in high school, more than 50 enrolled in college, and alumnae who rely on Marian for guidance during the early stages of their career journeys.
