Finding Your Catholic High School "Home" in the Archdiocese of St. Louis

Choosing a Catholic high school is more than picking a place to study — it’s about finding a community that feels like home. The Archdiocese of St. Louis offers many outstanding schools, each with its own unique spirit, traditions, and strengths. The best way to discover which one is right for your family? Visit in person!

Start Early

Don’t wait until eighth grade to start exploring.

High School Fairs are open to students in grades 5–8, offering a great first look at the variety of schools across the archdiocese. High School Nights are geared toward grades 7 and 8 and give families a chance to meet faculty, students, and admissions teams in one evening. Eighth graders can take part in shadow visits during the fall, spending a day alongside a current student to experience daily life firsthand. Many schools also offer one-on-one campus tours — perfect for a personalized visit. And don’t miss Open Houses, typically held on Sundays throughout October and November.

For specific dates and details, visit our events page or check each high school’s website.

Immerse Yourself in the School Community

Campus visits are more than classroom tours — they’re an opportunity to experience the culture and community of the school. Attend a performing arts showcase, athletic event, all-school liturgy, or another community gathering to see how students live out their faith and school spirit.

What to Look for on a Campus Tour or Shadow Day

Atmosphere & Vibe
Notice how students and parents interact. Are students kind, respectful, and genuinely happy to be there? Do you see parents volunteering or engaging in school life? Pay attention to teachers — are they approachable, passionate, and supportive? Look for “faith in action.” How does the school’s Catholic identity show up in daily life? Which parts of that resonate most with you?

Personal Fit
During a shadow day, observe how classes are taught. Does the pace and style feel right for you? Ask about clubs, sports, arts, music, and leadership opportunities. Can you see yourself getting involved?
Talk to current students. What do they love about their school? What would they change? How have they grown since enrolling?

Comfort & Belonging
How does the school promote diversity and inclusion? Do you feel welcomed and valued for who you are? Consider the size and layout of the campus. Do you prefer a large, lively environment or a smaller, close-knit feel? Visit social spaces like the cafeteria or courtyard — do they feel inviting and comfortable?

Practical Details
Review uniform and discipline policies — do they align with your family’s expectations? Think about the commute and how it fits into your daily routine. Notice how the admissions team treats families. A warm, responsive admissions office often reflects the school’s overall culture.

The Journey to the Right Fit

Finding your Catholic high school “home” takes time, prayer, and exploration. Every visit brings you one step closer to the right fit — a place where you can grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Start early, stay curious, and trust where God is leading you.
