St. Margaret of Scotland School Building

St. Margaret of Scotland School has been developing great students and great people from its original building in South St. Louis since 1918.  Located in the heart of historic Shaw Neighborhood, our school attracts a diverse population from various backgrounds and persuasions. We are a ministry of our home parish, St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, part of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. We are accredited by the National Nonpublic School State Accrediting Association. The St. Margaret of Scotland School mission has always been to provide an outstanding learning environment in which children are challenged to meet their potential and recognize their gifts in mind, body, and spirit.  We focus upon each child as an individual with unique strengths and talents, reaching out to each one at his or her own intellectual level.  In 2010, we earned the much-coveted, national honor of being named a Blue Ribbon school of excellence. Our enrollment also includes 20-30%, non-Catholic students.  The reason is both simple and profound: their parents know that St. Margaret’s offers an exceptional education rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and abiding respect for fellow human beings.

We are the Spirit of St. Margaret!

Mission

St. Margaret of Scotland Parish School is a diverse, urban, vibrant, and inclusive Catholic community. We provide a challenging learning environment for children, prekindergarten through eighth grade, in which they realize their academic potential and giftedness in body, mind, and spirit. Our students embody the example of our patron saint as responsible leaders and caretakers of our community through works of service and social justice.

Purpose

Faith is foundational. Our Catholic faith traditions infuse every subject area and school activity calling us to act in socially just ways towards one another and out into the wider world. All of our students participate in and lead faith-related traditions, events and dialogues throughout the school year. Weekly Mass, the sacraments, and all-school prayers celebrating the liturgical calendar and diverse cultural experiences inspire and enthuse our community.

Quality

We educate the whole child. We offer a rigorous course of studies grounded in national curricula and assessed using standards-based grading. Core learning opportunities are enriched by the practice of mindfulness at all grade levels, PE and optional athletics, service learning opportunities abound, music and art for all children. School-wide recycling, composting and our Dragon’s Grove garden are constant reminders of our call to care for God’s earth.

Dynamic Community

All are welcome at St. Margaret of Scotland. We provide a place of hospitality and inclusion as we live and learn within the body of Jesus Christ. Our school fosters and nurtures inclusion, diversity, and equity from our curriculum choices of literature to our after school sports teams. We strive to immerse our students in a deep understanding that we are all created in the image and likeness of God.
